Perry County is located in the eastern part of Kentucky. The county seat is the city of Hazard. The county covers an area of approximately 343 square miles and had a population of 28,712 as of the 2010 census. The county is known for its natural beauty, including the Daniel Boone National Forest, which covers a large portion of the county. The Kentucky River runs through the county, and the Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park is also located within the county. Popular outdoor activities in the county include hiking, fishing, boating, and camping. The county is home to several small communities, including Chavies, Cornettsville, and Ary.
